#16 first appears around the same time #17 and #18 appear. #16 is meant to be a beta machine, or an experiment, therefore #16 is never really ready to be released. However Dr Gero still releases him, just to see how well he performs. Like most of the other androids, his mission is to assinate Gokou. However, before #16 has the chance to take down Gokou, he meets Cell, an even more powerful android. Cell easily beats the wire out of #16 and left him half paralysed. Luckily, Dr Briefs (Bulma's father) saves #16 from destruction and reprogramms him to become a part of the Z team that fights with Gokou. One thing #16 is different from all other androids is that he doesn't fight unless it is necessary. Apparently #16 also has a good relationship with Krillin because it is Krillin who saves him from getting killed by Cell. However, #16 is still killed at the end (beheaded, then crushed) when battling Cell during the Cell tournament.
